Over forty-seven (50) years of company, business unit, and project operations experience including purchasing management and sales responsibilities for major industrial process engineering and construction companies, and for a leading Independent Power Producer.  Also serves as an Independent Director for a publicly traded NASDAQ company and is an Advisory Board Member for a large nationally recognized construction contractor.


 

EXPERIENCE

 

2009 to Present                    Century West Projects, Inc.

President                               

Providing construction management, engineering, and other related technical services to power industry clients, and expert reports in support of arbitration and litigation proceedings.  Projects have included:

 

Completion of a 62.5MW slow speed diesel power complex in Rockfort, Kingston, Jamaica after the initial EPC contractor had abandoned the project.

 

Management of a HRSG retubing program for a combined cycle power plant in Valladolid, Mexico

 

Providing a quality review team to punchlist the world’s largest IPP/Desalination project to assist owner in EPC contract closeout. The project is located in Saudi Arabia.

 

Various estimating and proposal support services for clients bidding for international power supply contracts

 

Providing construction management services to a California public utility after its project manager resigned unexpectedly.

 

2006 to 2009

BE&K Construction Company, Birmingham, AL

 

Responsible for all activities related to the Power Line of Business including Sales, Project Execution and profitability of this line of business.

1999 to 2006

Calpine Corporation, Sacramento, CA 

    

Responsible for engineering, procurement and construction of over 20,000MW of gas-fired combined cycle electrical generating plants for this leading Independent Power Producer.  At the peak of this $18B capital construction program, 23 projects achieved COD in one year.

1998 to 1999

V.P. – Projects 

Brightstar Synfuels Co., Houston, TX                                     

 

Responsible for coordination of proprietary process design development and implementation of all projects undertaken by this start-up company dedicated to the production of clean-burning syngas from waste biomass.

1996 to 1997

Total responsibility for the management of the company.

Overall responsibility for operations of Century Division of CNF Constructors, Inc. in 

Kingwood, TX after its acquisition by CNF, another builder of power generation 

facilities. 

1986 to 1995                    President & CEO

Total responsibility for the management of the company.  During this period, the company constructed over 3,500 MW of new electrical generation capacity for both independent power and utility clients. Work was performed under union project labor agreements on both a direct hire and CM basis, as well as utilizing direct hire open shop labor.  Services were provided on an EPC or construct-only basis, both domestically and internationally. Established partnership with Mexican power engineering firm to pursue business opportunities in that developing market. Negotiated various project partnership arrangements for varying roles on specific projects. All these deals included some form of profit sharing.  Company played a significant role in O&M Staffing for the first three (3) Cogentrix coal-fired power plants

1983 to 1986

Numerous Projects including:

 

Upgrade of 12,000 BPD Lube Oil Vacuum Refining Unit Shell Oil, Deer Park, TX

 

250 MMSCFD Sour Gas Separation Facility, Amoco, Evanston, WY

 

Sterile Gauze Manufacturing Line, Johnson & Johnson, Sherman, TX

 

300 MMSCFD NGL/NRU EOR Project, Amoco, Evanston, WY

 

Responsible for contractual relationship with client, project cost/completion schedule, management of process/design engineering subcontractors, procurement, and construction activities.  All projects were fixed-price contracts and construction was performed on a direct-hire, merit shop basis.

1967 to 1983                    

 

Manager- New Ventures 

Dravo Corporation

 

Responsible for raising $1 billion in equity investment for the Means County, KY oil shale project considered for funding support by the U.S. Government’s Synthetic Fuels Corporation.

Mgr.-Purchasing 

Construction

Responsible for domestic and international purchases and expediting of $200 million annually of materials, process equipment, and construction subcontract services.  Directed a staff of 75 employees with an annual administrative budget of $2million. Also responsible for marketing effort aimed at qualifying Dravo for offshore oil projects for a major domestic producer. 

Purchasing Agent

Responsible for domestic and international purchases for minerals and metals process plants totaling $100 million annually.  Supervised the activities of an assistant purchasing agent and 10 other employees. Assisted with proposals, estimates, sales presentations and establishment of contract conditions for subcontractors.

Director of Ops 

Brazilian Subsidiary

Responsible for investigation and negotiations leading to acquisition of equity in a Brazilian engineering firm. Directed change of business focus from steel detailing to industrial process plant design and construction.  Annual revenues grew to $1 million, backlog increased from $80,000 to $600,000; professional employees increased from 34 to 77 while staff employees remained constant. Lived in Brazil for four (4) years.

Numerous projects, both domestic and international.  Responsible for client liaison, project cost and schedule, and coordination of design, materials procurement, and construction management.
