Math

Shape Hunt

Have kids find, draw and color at least 10 things total for this shape hunt. Take a picture and send it to me. Use squares, circles, rectangles and triangles and others if you like.

Kids (and adults!) love a good scavenger hunt. Put a twist on the search by having kids find items of certain shapes. When all objects have been collected, kids can then trace and color in the items on a separate sheet of paper.  If the objects are items that can’t be picked up, such as a clock on a wall, let kids use your smartphone to take a photo of the item. Print out or draw a sheet with shapes and let the hunt begin. This is a great game that can be played inside or out. Math skills used: geometry

Roll to Win

Have your child toss two dice and add up the numbers that are rolled. Write down the total on a piece of paper. Reroll and keep adding up the numbers until you reach 50. Math skills used: addition

Reading

ASSIGNMENTS

4/20

6th Six Weeks – 2nd week

Please keep practicing your reading because the more you read the better you will get.

This week I want you to do a project for your assignment. I want to make it easy, so I am only giving you this one thing to do this week (besides reading). Please take your time and make it fun. You have all week to get this done. Here you go:

1ST GRADE PROJECT

You will need a box, just about any size will work. It can be a big box or a small one. You are going to make the box into something else so use your imagination.

Here are some ideas to help you decide what to change your box into: you could make it into a fort, a wagon, a house, a robot, a castle, a rocket ship, a car, a log cabin, a kitchen, a train, a movie theater, a fire truck, a doll house, a barn, a pet store, a zoo, a playground or flattened out you could draw a city. You can choose one of these or come up with your own. I would like you to use as many details as you can.

Here is a list of items you might need depending on what you make out of your box: markers, crayons, pencils, glue, tape, paper or anything else that you might need such as sticks, rocks, leaves, grass, staples or paper clips. Just use what you have and do the best that you can.

After you finish your project, get a piece of paper and:

  1. Write 1 sentence telling me what your project is.

  2. Write 1 sentence telling me a problem you had and how you solved it.

  3. Write 1 sentence telling me something fun you learned while making it.

Writing Goals: Write letters neatly and correctly on the lines. Write capital letters where they belong. Spell words correctly. Use finger spaces between my words. Write with punctuation.

Now, take a picture of your project and your paper with the 3 sentences and email them to me at pam.vanwinkle@cranfillsgapisd.net. Please email me if you have any questions.

I hope you have fun doing this! I cannot wait to see everyone’s wonderful imaginations at work!
